About

It all started in the winter of 2018…

Gavin, the ringleader of this chaos, was notorious for trying out every hobby under the sun. When he started pestering friends to play Dungeons & Dragons, responses ranged from “Hell yeah!” to “Not a chance,” to “Maybe… okay, fine.” Eventually, a motley crew of six was roped in.

The setting? Let’s call it “charmingly rustic.” Dwayne’s rec room boasted a big-screen TV that doubled as a game table and a woodstove that could’ve roasted marshmallows from across the room. Every session felt like an endurance test—rolling dice and sweating bullets while trying not to pass out. But hey, they had snacks, plenty of snacks, so all was right in the world.

In the beginning it was a simple mission; just a bunch of friends trying to figure it out and sharing some laughs. Pen & paper. Throwing dice. Sweet and salty bits. But somewhere along the way, they wondered: “How can we make this better?” Someone (probably Gavin) suggested recording their sessions. Armed with nothing but an iPhone plunked in the middle of the table, they captured every laugh, groan, and triumphant cheer. But what if the audio quality was a bit better?

Enter Tash with a microphone and an audio recorder. Better, but not great. They added five more mics because, why not? One day, someone (probably Gavin) remarked, “Sooooooo, we’re basically recording a podcast now,” and just like that, Crit & Fumble was born.

Fast forward a few years, and ohhhhhh, how things have changed! They’ve upgraded to a bigger space with a proper table, comfier chairs, and gear that doesn’t sound like the inside of a tin can. The group’s lineup has shifted as life happened—some adventurers departed, new ones joined—but the heart of it all remains the same: good friends, epic storytelling, and, of course, snacks*.

Nowadays Crit & Fumble is a finely tuned machine (is it???) of hilarity and epic tales. Listeners tune in for the camaraderie, the ridiculous banter, and the kind of storytelling that’ll make you laugh one minute and gasp the next. The journey from sweating it out in a rec room (sauna…) to running a legit podcast has been a wild ride, but one thing’s for sure: it’s always been about gathering around a table, having a damn good time, and eating way too many snacks.

*Dwayne, the snack god, continues to keep the crew fuelled with an endless supply of treats. All the treats.
